Celebrity Interior Designer Vern Yip turns tables on cancer
Personal loss becomes opportunity to help others
Baltimore, MD— Celebrity designer and HGTV host Vern Yip visited the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center earlier this month to meet with young adults who are fighting cancer. He also toured the Greenebaum Cancer Center to learn more about the facility’s nationally recognized program in patient care and research.
Yip, whose mother Vera died of cancer three years ago, established a scholarship to honor his mother through the Ulman Cancer Fund, a Maryland-based organization that supports young adults (ages 18-40) who are facing cancer.
In 2009, the Ulman Cancer Fund will offer a new scholarship to a University of Maryland student who has been impacted by cancer.
Yip was in Maryland for an Ulman Cancer Fund benefit on March 10, 2009.
The University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center has a patient navigator, supported by the Ulman Cancer Fund, who helps young adult cancer patients access resources, learn more about their disease and communicate better with their medical team. During Yip’s visit, patient navigator Elizabeth Saylor, introduced the designer to several cancer survivors who shared their stories about living with the disease.
The University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center is a
National Cancer Institute-designated center, placing it among the top tier of centers nationwide for cancer research and patient care. For more information, go to www.umgcc.org.
