BALTIMORE Readers of all ages will dig into a good book this summer as the Enoch Pratt Free Library presents “Dig Into Reading” during its 2013 Summer Reading Program from June 1 to August 3, 2013.
Family Summer Reading kick off celebrations will be held at the Central
Library located at 400 Cathedral Street in Baltimore on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.
“Studies have shown that children who read over the summer are better prepared to continue their education when they return to school in the fall,” said Carla D. Hayden, Chief Executive Officer of the Enoch Pratt Free Library. “But it’s important to emphasize that reading is fun. Sometimes students get so busy they forget that there’s more to reading than just school texts. So “unearth a good book” with this year’s Summer Reading program because “reading rocks.”
Children, teens and adults will discover that “reading rocks.” Readers can explore places through stories, crafts, music, dance and other free activities. This year, for every eight books/hours that a child reads, they are entered into a raffle to win free tickets to the Aquarium on library night. Orioles’ tickets will also be available as door prizes at each branch's End of Summer Reading Party. Last year, the Pratt registered more than 13,200 children and teens. All together participants read nearly 154,000 books.
