The Meritocrats celebrate 50 years of service and enjoyment to the community. This elite social organization of distinguished men recently had their successful “Spring Fling Cabaret.” Their Annual Picnic will take place on July 26, 2014.

Hello everyone, hope everything is well with you. Me and my “Boo-Boo” Shorty Trusty had a very busy week and even more so this weekend. Last Saturday, we went to New York to see my group “Signature Live! Last Sunday I went to the Patapsco Arena for a Brian Hall event, which was very successful and very nice. I was selected by Dr. Donna Hollie and the Baltimore Chapter of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society to showcase an exhibit entitled: “Notable Maryland Women,” which was held at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum. I covered the Baltimore’s Farmer’s Market reopening; I had book signings with my new book at the Meritocrats Cabaret and at the Forrest Park Senior Center for the Last Chance Entertainment Cabaret; so you see, I hardly had enough time to really relax. But, I loved every moment of it.

In memory of Vivian “Black Pearl” Thornton, the mother of our girl, Pamela Leak, better known as “Ms. Maybelle” passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014. May she rest in peace.

Now, let’s talk about the Hard Rock Café. I got a call from Stephanie Maroon, who does publicity for the Hard Rock Café of Baltimore to inform me that this year on Tax Day, the Café is cutting the community a break by asking them to lay down their wallets and pick up the mic! Check this out! On Tuesday, April 15, 5-7 p.m., they will open up the stage to give fans a chance to “Sing for Your Supper.” Guests will have the opportunity to select their favorite song and take the stage to perform on their covered outdoor pier. Guests who perform a complete song on Hard Rock Café’s live music stage in front of the entire restaurant will receive a free dinner entrée from Hard Rock’s new menu. Now isn’t that Kool? The restaurant is located at 601 E. Pratt Street. Oh, by the way, if you can’t sing, just sit in the back in the corner with me and bring your wallet. We don’t want to be embarrassed if you know what I mean. For more information, call 410-576-2208 and tell then “Rambling Rose” told you.

“Viola Griffin’s Awards Banquet” is Sunday, April 13 from 4-9 p.m. at the Waxter Senior Center. This is an event you don’t want to miss. You will get a chance to meet and greet original artists for the 60’s to the 80’s who were popular in Baltimore back in the day. The artists who will be honored include Grand Jury; The Vandals/Impact; Man’s Theory; The Inclinations; Pocket’s Madhouse; The Emperors; and Tomorrow’s Promise. Radio disc jockeys Al Jefferson, Bob Dockins, JB Brown and Moon Man will also be there. I will be the mistress of ceremonies for this event.
