RAMBLING ROSE: Happy, Happy Mother’s Day to all the mommies
5/9/2014, 6 a.m.
Hello everyone! How are you? This is Mother’s Day weekend and for those of you who are blessed to still have your mothers, celebrate with her and show her that you love her. If your mother is in a nursing home, hospital or in a senior citizen home, please go visit her and take some flowers and your smile. Tell her you love her.
I can’t imagine having to bury my mother on Mother’s Day weekend as the daughter and family of Garnetta Reese who passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 will have to. Her viewing will be held on Sunday, May 11 at Vaughn Green Funeral Home on Baltimore National Parkway and her services on Monday, May 12 at 10 a.m. at St. Bernadine Catholic Church located at 3812 Edmondson Avenue.
There are several places and events for you to take your mother this weekend. Make it a family thing.
J&B Entertainment is hosting a “Pre-Mother’s Day Old Fashion House Party” on Saturday, May 10th featuring the Panama Band, BADD, Greg Cooper, and the Dynamic Superiors at the Gentleman 10 Lounge, 2135 Edmondson Avenue in Baltimore. It’s cabaret style, food on sale, BYOB, but free set-ups. For more ticket information, call George Haley at 410-905-0169.
There’s a Mother’s Day show at the Baltimore Arena, 201 W. Baltimore Street on Sunday, May 11th featuring Gladys Knight, Marvin Sapp, Tamela Mann, James Fortune and Tasha Cobbs. For tickets, call 410-347-2006 or 410-547-7328.

The Hubert V. Simmons Museum of Negro Leagues Baseball, Inc. will host an event on Saturday, May 10 at the Forum Caters 1-5 p.m. 4210 Primrose Avenue. The “Annual Day of Honors” awards Negro Leagues veterans and others who have recognized the significance of preserving the legacy of the Negro Leagues. The theme is “Back to the Old Ball Game!” This looks like a fun day for all. Vendors, baseball celebrities, door prizes, autographs, children’s games, Little League contests, DJ music and line dancing; the Oriole Bird, all you can eat ballpark fare including the Forum’s famous fried chicken. For ticket information, call 410-597-9797.
The free beer, wine and liquor tasting expo and show is at the Maryland State Fair Grounds this year at 2200 York Road. I heard the Patapsco Arena got too small to accommodate their guests, so they moved it to the Maryland State Fair Grounds on Saturday, May 10 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dress to impress. MULBA & Maryland Beverage Association and Dr. Louise Jones Johnson appreciate your support. For ticket information, call 410-925-4056.
Before I leave you, I want to say happy birthday to some special people who are celebrating this weekend such as: Councilman William Welch, Viola Griffin, my boss, Joy Bramble, my friend and Al Maddox of Time Printing; and Rickey Shackleford and Harold Anthony-Cornish who celebrate their birthday last weekend. May God bless you all with many more.
Well, my dear friends, I believe this is enough to get you started. Enjoy your weekend and keep safe! Remember, if you need me for your event, just call me at 410-833-9474 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. UNTIL THE NEXT TIME, I’M MUSICALLY YOURS.
