Baltimore’s own John Kane was recently named Artist of The Year at the sixth annual Fall Music Fest sponsored byMyRuralradio.com, a grassroots community of independent musicians. The My Rural Radio Fall Music Fest was held in Stewartstown, Pennsylvania on October 11, 2014 and recognizes unsigned artists of many genres including country, rock, funk and pop.

Kane is not only a local solo artist, but he is also a member of the band titled J3K Trio. On any given night you can catch him and the band performing original music at local restaurants and pubs.

Kane became interested in music at a very young age. He started playing the guitar around age eight and credits his mother with influencing his musical journey. He says his mother “used to sing and travel the world in choirs.” She also played a lot of soul music while he was growing up. She would play

Motown artists like Smokey Robinson, The Four Tops and a lot of Stevie Wonder. All the music being played around the house eventually led him to start producing his own soul music. He actually considers his music to be a hybrid of acoustic, blues and soul. Stevie Wonder was his biggest inspiration vocally and musically.

Kane can also be seen in the upcoming independent film “Charm City Blues,” written by local playwright and movie producer Donnie Manuel. In the movie, Kane portrays a homeless man who sits in the park strumming his guitar, singing to any and everybody who happens to cross his path.

“Having never met anyone before I feared I’d be the outsider” said Kane. “I couldn’t have been more wrong. From the moment I met everyone on my day of filming, I felt like I’d known the cast for years. Given our upbringing and indigenous knowledge of the city’s pulse, I immediately felt part of a heart that will never stop beating.”

Charm City Blues, is slated to be released in summer 2015.
