WMAR ABC2 wins four Emmy awards for spot news and promotion campaigns

BALTIMORE WMAR ABC2, the Scripps owned ABC affiliate in Baltimore, MD, was honored this past Saturday night with four Emmy Awards from The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter.
In the “Spot News” category, WMAR News Director Kelly Groft accepted the award for “The Day Breaking News Happened Inside ABC2.” This entry refers to the station’s own coverage of the unbelievable day when a man attacked the station by crashing a large truck directly through their lobby. Earlier this year, WMAR’s newsroom also received 2 AP awards, one of them for this same coverage.
In the promotions related categories, WMAR had 3 wins accepted by WMAR Director of Creative Services, Alex Shaw. In the “News Promo, Single Spot” category, it was for an investigative report promo involving “Hospital Rape Kits”.
Promotion for “In Focus,” WMAR’s unique program focused on original and in-depth reporting and investigations, also brought in awards. In the “Promotion Program, Single Spot” category, the winning entry was show launch promo “What I.F.” In the Promotion - Program—Campaign” category, it was for the show’s “Cornerstone Campaign” spots. Earlier this year, WMAR’s creative services also earned 4 2015 Telly Awards, 2 of them for these same two In Focus entries.
