As cleanup of a hazardous material continues following this morning’s CSX train derailment in Washington, D.C., the Maryland Department of Transportation’s Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is alerting commuters of reduced service and expected delays tomorrow (May 2) on the MARC Brunswick Line.

The following MARC Brunswick Line trains are the only ones that will operate tomorrow morning. All three trains will make all stops and terminate at Silver Spring. Passengers continuing to Washington may transfer to D.C. Metro from Rockville or Silver Spring:

Train 892 (6:05 a.m. departure from Frederick)

Train 878 (6:25 a.m. departure from Martinsburg)

Train 880 (7:45a.m. departure from Brunswick)

The following Brunswick Line trains are the only ones that will operate tomorrow evening. All three trains will originate at Silver Spring and make all stops:

  • Train 875 will depart Silver Spring at 4:39 p.m.
  • Train 893 will depart Silver Spring at 5:34 p.m.
  • Train 881 will hold 30 minutes and depart Silver Spring at 7:04 p.m.

This train will terminate in Brunswick. Eastern Panhandle Transit Authority buses will meet the train at Brunswick for service to Duffield, Va., and Harpers Ferry and Martinsburg, W.Va.

These three trains will likely be very crowded. Passengers should be advised of the following:

D.C. Metro will be open. Passengers may show their MARC tickets to the Metrorail station manager for admittance through the gate next to the information kiosk. Metro parking charges must be paid upon exiting the parking lot. Reimbursement will not be provided.

MTA Commuter Bus has added some additional capacity on the Commuter Bus Route 515 line from the Monocacy Station. All MARC tickets will be honored on both Routes 505 and 515. These buses operate from Hagerstown, Frederick and Monocacy to the Shady Grove Metro Station.

Passengers boarding at Germantown and points east may utilize Ride-On bus service to connect to D.C. Metro. Ride-On buses will honor all MARC weekly and monthly passes.
