— November 1st marked the launch of the Open Enrollment period for Marylanders to sign up for insurance through the federal Affordable Care Act. HealthCare Access Maryland, a nonprofit organization, will play a key role as the Connector Entity helping consumers to enroll in qualified health insurance plans in Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Anne Arundel County.

The three-month Open Enrollment period ends January 31, 2017.

"Our team will be working with residents across the central region to help them enroll in an appropriate insurance plan to meet their medical needs and budget," said Traci Kodeck, president and CEO of HealthCare Access Maryland. "Our trained navigators will walk consumers through the process and help them make the best decision about insurance. We urge all residents of the area to learn about their options for free or affordable insurance coverage."

During the Open Enrollment period, consumers can sign up for various private insurance plans. In many cases, consumers who opt for these plans may be eligible for federal subsidies. Additionally, Marylanders who meet income and other eligibility factors can enroll in the state's Medicaid insurance program.

Consumers who sign up for insurance by December 15, 2016 will have their policies go into effect January 1, 2017. The final deadline for enrolling is January 31, 2017.
