— The Pearl and Ivy Educational Foundation, Inc. (PIEF), in partnership with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Xi Omega Chapter, held "It's A Capital Affair" - 8th Annual Pink Hat Tea Scholarship Fundraiser Providing Support to Scholars in Our Nation's Capital.

Proceeds from The Pink Hat Tea are used to specifically support the PIEF Salute to Excellence scholarship program for college-bound DC high school graduating seniors. In 2016, PIEF awarded $2,300 each to fourteen college-bound high school seniors and $1,500 each to eleven PIEF returning scholars. The 2017 event goal is to raise $35,000.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA) is an international service organization that was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1908. It is the oldest Greek letter organization established by African-American college-educated women. Xi Omega Chapter is the oldest and largest graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in Washington, DC. Established in 1923, the chapter has a membership of more than 300 professional women, who serve the District and surrounding communities. Xi Omega’s signature service programs focus on educational enrichment, health promotion, family strengthening, environmental ownership, and global impact. These programs are the cornerstone of the AKAnational service theme, “Launching New Dimensions of Service.”
