Have you heard about the 2023 Black Music Festival? Well, honey child, let me tell you what I know. The Black Music Festival is a celebration of music through dance. It was created by the Dance & Bmore Ensemble under the leadership of artistic director CJay Philip. It includes Everlea Bryant, Winston Philip, Alisha Tatem, Peri Walker, Timothy Johnson-McCoy, DeMerris Russell and CJay Philip. They will perform four shows from June 10-11, 2023 at the Motor House. My dear friend and entertainment partner, Wilbert Fletcher and WLF Productions from Washington, D.C. will present a Motown Explosion featuring the homecoming of the Motown Hall of Famers including the Dynamic Superiors (“Shoe Shoe Shine”) performing a tribute to many of the Motown families. For my die-hard jazz lovers, An Die Musik Live!, located 409 N. Charles Street in Baltimore has a treat for you. On Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 7 p.m., Kahil El’Zabar, Ethnic Heritage Ensemble founder, percussionist, vocalist; and David Murray, Grammy Awards winner and saxophonist, will perform. The Golden Sea Duo Tour follows in a long line of internationally acclaimed shows and recordings as a celebration of both performer’s undeniable chemistry.
Summer is coming, and so is the annual AFRAM Festival on Celebration on Juneteenth weekend from noon to 9 p.m. at Druid Hill Park, on June 17-18, 2023. This is a free, family-oriented celebration. Juneteenth Celebration: Envisioning A New Future will be held at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum on Monday, June 19, 2023 from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. This year with a free day at the museum, visitors can learn about the origins of Juneteenth while enjoying a musical performance by the Baltimore Symphony Musicians, the Benny Russell Big Band and actor Keith Snipes.
