The Central Maryland Chapter of the American Red Cross is hosting its Second Annual GO FOR THE RED, Virtual Race on Saturday, August 7, 2021, VIRTUALLY, in many locations in Central Maryland and around the country. Proceeds enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to, and help people recover from disasters big and small.
The community can join the Red Cross mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by making a financial donation to the GO FOR THE RED at goforthered.org/ or join fundraiser efforts and Sign Up at the same website.
Funds raised enable the Red Cross to provide critical services to people impacted by local disasters, including home fires, which are the most common disaster the Red Cross responds to.
“It all begins with you, the community. The Red Cross belongs to the American people. You fund it; you donate your blood; you prepare for and respond to disasters; you take and instruct first aid classes so ‘We’ll Be There.’
You make the Red Cross what it is today, and you hold the keys to its future,” said GO FOR THE RED and Philanthropy Chair, John Miller.
During a disaster or emergency, you can rely on Red Cross for services including: a safe place to sleep; meals, snacks, and water; health services (for disaster-related conditions), such as first aid, refilling lost prescriptions or replacing lost eyeglasses; emotional support and mental health services; spiritual care; help reconnecting with loved ones; information about disaster-related resources in the community, and access to case workers to help you with disaster recovery.
You can also access these services even if you don’t need a place to sleep anyone with a disaster-related need can visit the local Red Cross to be directed to the appropriate resources.
