BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State softball will begin conference play this weekend as the Bulldogs are set to compete in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) round-up Friday, Mar. 25 through Sunday, Mar. 27. The three-day event is hosted by both Saint Augustine’s and Shaw in Raleigh, N.C. at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex.

The Bulldogs (7-11-1) will face Livingstone (0-0) at 10 a.m. on Friday (3/25), followed by a contest with Johnson C. Smith (1-4) at 3 p.m. Saturday (3/26), Bowie State will meet Fayetteville State (5-11) and Claflin (2-8) at 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively. The final day of the round-up will feature BSU and Winston-Salem State (3-5) at 9 a.m. and Saint Augustine’s (0-10) at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday (3/27).
Previously, the Bulldogs split a doubleheader with Goldey-Beacom in their last outing. BSU captured a 5-3 win in the opener but fell short 13-12 in the nightcap. Graduate senior Evelyn Buehlman (Ellicott City, MD) has had one of the most consistent bats for the Bulldogs this season with a .400 batting average (24-60), a team-high 24 hits, 14 RBI, and second in home runs (2). Freshman Alyssa Cloutier (Derwood, MD) and graduate senior Aseyah Alexander (Silver Spring, MD) post a .370 and .364 batting clip while senior Shanya Gordon (Elkridge, MD) has a team-high 18 RBI, 21 hits, eight doubles, and a pair of triples.
The three-headed monster of Buehlman, junior Akirra Pullen (Baltimore, MD) and freshman Lindsey George (Fayetteville, GA) will look to bring their best to the table in the round-up. All three have combined for 78 strikeouts in 112.2 innings pitched. Buehlman is 4-5 overall with nine starts while Pullen has a team-best 3.91 ERA and a 2-1 mark in the circle.
