MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola
NORFOLK, Va., March 6, 2023 – Coppin State redshirt senior Brissa Alvarado has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the league announced today. Coppin State’s Seryna Esparza was named Rookie of the Week, and Morgan State junior Anaya Hunte was named the Pitcher of the Week.

Alvarado (5-8, r-Sr., INF, Rialto, Calif.) batted .545 (6-for-11) in Coppin State’s opening weekend, leading the Eagles to a 2-2 mark with wins over Bryant and Towson. She went 3-for-4 in the season opener against Bryant, hitting one of her two doubles for the weekend, and she had two more hits against Bucknell on Saturday. She also drew a walk in the win over Towson.
Esparza (5-4, Fr., INF, Hollister, Calif.) hit .417 for the weekend, notching five hits in 12 at-bats across four games while driving in four runs and scoring three times. She hit a two-run home run and walked in the season-opening win over Bryant, and against Towson, she went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, including a double.
Hunte (5-5, Jr., P/OF, Burlington, N.J.) struck out 19 batters in 13.1 innings pitched this past week, including 10 in 6.1 innings of work against Fairleigh Dickinson and another nine in a complete-game effort against Bryant. She scattered 11 hits in those two outings and only gave up two runs in each game.
Other Top Performers
Vanessa Carrizosa (Coppin State) won twice, over Bryant in the season opener and then Towson to cap off the weekend. Against Bryant, she struck out four in 6.0 innings.

Makiya Graves (North Carolina Central) hit .375 in six games this past week, including a three-hit game against Lehigh.
