NORFOLK, Va., May 17, 2023 – Howard University’s esports team was in Arlington, Texas the weekend of May 5-7, representing the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) by competing in the Collegiate Esports Commissioners’ Cup (CECC), presented by McDonald’s.

By winning the MEAC championship in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in March, Howard was selected for an automatic bid to CECC. The team was awarded assistance with travel and lodging for the tournament, courtesy of McDonald’s of North Texas.

The quartet of Violet, Angelo, Yinka, and Ikem (all gamer tags) competed against Fisher College, an esports powerhouse and eventual CECC Smash Bros. champion, and were eliminated in the first round.

In addition to McDonald’s, CECC was powered by CSMG, EsportsU, and Esports Foundry.

The all-inclusive collegiate esports celebration brings collegiate esports athletes from across the United States to battle in multiple game titles for the chance to be crowned winner of the Commissioners Cup. Over three days, close to 400 of the nation’s best esports athletes vied for this prestigious award in Overwatch 2Rocket LeagueValorant, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
