The wins snapped a nine-game losing skid for BSU against the Marauders (17-19) who entered Wednesday’s competition claiming nine of the last 10 matchups. The pair of victories also stretches Bowie State’s win streak to four with an 18-18-1 overall record.

Game 1: Bowie State, 3 – Millersville, 0

Freshman Lindsey George (Fayetteville, GA) had a fantastic outing in game one, collecting the victory in the circle, tossing a complete game with eight strikeouts.

After a scoreless first three frames, the Bulldogs struck first with two runs in the fourth. Graduate senior Evvie Buehlman (Ellicott City, MD) collected two RBI to score both freshman Kayla Evans (Bridgeville, DE) and senior Shanya Gordon (Elkridge, MD).

In the bottom sixth, Bowie State tallied another run thanks to an RBI double from Buehlman. BSU’s defense limited the Marauders to just three hits in the opener while Buehlman and Evans both went 2-for-3 at-bat with Buehlman garnering three RBI.

Game 2: Bowie State, 5 – Millersville, 4

The pitching unit for Bowie State continued to do well in the day’s second game as Buehlman started off in the circle, tossing six strikeouts in six innings, allowing three hits. She would be credited for the win, improving to 9-7 on the year.

Similar to the first game, Bowie State cracked the scoreboard first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third as both Gordon and Evans doubled to allow freshman Brittany Brewer (Savage, MD) and freshman Alyssa Cloutier (Derwood, MD) to score.

In the fifth, things looked upward for Bowie State as the Bulldogs tacked on three more runs on four hits but the Marauders scored three runs of their own, including two that were unearned to pull within two (5-3) of BSU after six complete. A single provided Millersville with another run in the seventh but the Bulldog’s defense locked in and recorded the final out of the inning on a fouled ball.

Evans finished 2-for-3 at the plate and an RBI while Buehlman posted two RBI on 1-of-3 plate appearances. BSU combined for seven total hits.

Bowie State will return to conference action on Saturday and Sunday with home series against Shaw (4/23) and Elizabeth City State (4/24). Both games will begin at 1 p.m. on each day.
