Defensive Effort Not Enough as Bulldogs Drop 70-66 Decision to Felician

HARLEM, NY —The Bowie State men’s basketball team kept Felician to just 35.4 percent shooting from the field, but fell 70-66 to the Golden Falcons (3-1) at Nat Holman Gymnasium Saturday in the Harlem Renaissance Classic.

The Bulldogs (1-3) had four players score in double figures, led by Caleb Johnson, who had 19 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Joel Webb added 12 points and Quinton Drayton helped out with 11 points.

Led by Elijah Rantin’s three offensive rebounds, the Bulldogs crashed the offensive glass, pulling down 11 boards that resulted in 15 second-chance points.

BSU disrupted Felician’s shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Rantin led the way individually for the Bulldogs with two rejections.

How It Happened
After falling behind 27-20, Bowie State went on a 9-0 run with 4:40 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Johnson, to take a 29-27 lead. The Bulldogs then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 34-31.

The Golden Falcons kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 59-53 advantage before BSU went on a 5-0 run to shrink the deficit to 59-58 with 5:51 to go in the contest. FU responded and outscored the Bulldogs the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 70-66. The Bulldogs got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for nine of its 35 total points.
