BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State women’s basketball team scored 33 points off of turnovers but fell 87-75 to the Chowan Hawks (8-4) at home Saturday afternoon inside A.C. Jordan Arena.

The Bulldogs (6-6) had four players score in double figures, led by sophomore Anii Harris (Ellicott City, MD), who had 22 points and four steals. Redshirt sophomore Katerra Myers (Burtonsville, MD) added 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench and junior Robyn Howard (Temple Hills, MD) helped out with 11 points.

Myers pulled down four offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second-chance opportunities for Bowie State, grabbing 15 boards and turning them into 12 second-chance points.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 7-5 advantage, Bowie State went on a 5-0 run with 7:02 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Howard, to increase its lead to 12-5. The Bulldogs then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter-break with a 22-19 advantage. BSU did most of its first-quarter damage in the paint, scoring 14 of its 22 points close to the basket.

The Bulldogs could not maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 38-32.

Bowie State’s deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Bulldogs faced a 69-53 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. BSU played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 21 points in the paint.

Chowan kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 78-61 advantage before Bowie State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Howard’s three, to shrink the deficit to 78-67 with 5:24 to go in the contest. The Hawks responded and outscored the Bulldogs the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 87-75.
