BSUNAA Bulldogs in Baltimore… Home Again

Bowie State University National Alumni Association (BSUNAA) returns home to Baltimore during the CIAA Basketball Tournament week, in support of Bowie State University, the only HBCU CIAA school in the State of Maryland.

Bowie State University National Alumni Association will kick off the week, Monday, February 20th by hosting a team dinner for Bowie State University Men & Women’s Basketball teams. “Last year, we hosted a dinner for the teams and they won,” stated Nicholas L. Myles (℅ ‘03), Co-Covener of BSUNAA CIAA Committee. “Because of that win, and the comradery the alumni and students shared, we decided to make this an annual tradition.”

In addition to the dinner, BSUNAA is re-introducing “The Seasoned Suite”, which will open Thursday, February 23, 2023, 3pm – until.  Vic Parker (℅ ‘85), Co-Covener of BSUNAA CIAA will host the room and provide all the essentials to bring back The  Seasoned Suite’s essence of a warm and inviting space for mature alumni, who would like to gather and fellowship, before and after the games.

Friday, February 24th BSUNAA will host “Party with A Purpose”, a day & evening party, starting at the Hilton Hotel Hospitality Suite from 1pm-6pm, (where alumni will pick up their “GOLD PASS”) and closing out the evening in “Overtime” at Lexington Market, 112 N. Eutaw St., from 6pm-12am. “These events are to welcome home our alumni,” says Joe Inkwell (℅ ‘04), BSUNAA Director of Special Events. “We also want to provide a good time in the Charm City, and raise awareness as well as funds for BSUNAA.”

Bowie Bulldogs Day of Service” will take place Saturday morning, February 25, 2023, 9am-11am at St. Frances Academy Community Center, where the organization will host a basketball clinic for underprivileged Baltimore youth ages 8-15. “Thanks to our sponsor, the MTM Foundation, we will be able to host this day of service with no cost to the association or community,” says Nicholas Myles, who is also the Athletic Director at St. Frances Academy.

“This is the reason I knew we had to get Baltimore natives Nick Myles and Joe Inkwell on board,” stated Darren Swain, BSUNAA President. “They are able to bring our alumni activities and events to life through their local resources”.

Saturday evening, 7pm-12am, the Association will host “BSUNAA Greek party”, at So Baltimore Sports Bar & Lounge, hosted by alumni Dr. Stephanie Overton-Stanard (℅ ‘90) a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Nicholas Myles (℅ ‘03) a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. “We have alumni representatives from all of BSUNAA Divine 9 organizations participating in this night time activity,” says Overton-Stanard. “However, all Bowie alumni are invited to attend.”

BSUNAA will culminate the weekend with a soul-stirring alumni brunch at the Hilton Hotel, spearheaded by Alumni Renanda Johnson (℅ 02 & 07) and Annette Wedderburn, Sunday, February 26th, 12pm-2pm (doors open at 11am).  “This event will be the culmination of Bowie State University National Alumni Association activities during this tournament week,” says Johnson. “This weekend is like a winter homecoming; and our purpose is to ensure our alumni feel at home and included in all things this great city has to offer as we support our alma mater, Bowie State University,” says Swain.
