Freshman Purity Kibet was Benedict’s top finisher, coming in 19t
CAMDEN, S.C. — The Benedict College women’s cross country team opened the 2022 season by finishing sixth out of seven teams at the Carolina Challenge on Saturday.


Freshman Purity Kibet was Benedict’s top finisher, coming in 19 overall with a time of 20:59.97 in her collegiate debut in the women’s 5K race at Springdale Race Course.

Megan Thompson finished 23rd with a time of 21:24.87. Jane Kiborus finished 29th overall with a time of 22:11.29, Floma Okumu finished 33rd with a time of 22:58.20, Lydia Kosgei ran a 24:44.95 and finished 44th overall, while teammate Torriann Noad was close behind in 45th at 24:56.78. Cavel Barnett ran a personal best with 25:02.41. Eilika Lane was 56th with a time of 28:20.56, while Sinia Massillon finished 58th overall with a 28:53.21.

The Tigers travel to Charlotte to run in the Queen’s University of Charlotte meet at McAlpine Creek on Sept. 23.
