Spartans to Begin Spring Practice on Monday

NORFOLK, Va. | Football is officially back at Norfolk State University after four months away as the Spartans begin their annual slate of spring practices on Monday.

Norfolk State begins its path to the 2023 season with 15 practices this spring, with the annual spring scrimmage scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 8 at William “Dick” Price Stadium. That same day, the NSU football program will be hosting a ton of recruits for junior day.

Dawson Odums returns for his third season as the head football coach at Norfolk State as the Spartans went 2-9 overall last season and 2-3 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play. Approximately, 90 players will be available to compete in the spring.

Norfolk State recently completed a 2023 signing class of 39 student-athletes, including 17 that will be in uniform this spring.

All Practices are closed to the public and first-time fans will have the opportunity to see the Spartans will be during the annual spring scrimmage on April 8.

The Spartans open the 2023 season with the Labor Day Classic on Saturday, September 2 against rival Virginia State and will have their first road game the following the week (September 9) at rival Hampton.
