BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State women’s tennis (3-3, 3-2 CIAA) team split day two of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up on Saturday, defeating Winston-Salem State 4-0 before falling to the defending champions of Shaw, 4-1.
The Bulldogs made quick work of the Rams (0-1, 0-1 CIAA) in the morning session. In doubles action, the pairing of sophomore Afruica Gentle (Germantown, Ghana) and freshman Kayla Lowery (Cleveland, OH) earned a 6-2 win at the No. 1 slot while sophomore Tamia Byrom (Upper Marlboro, MD) and freshman Aria Mason (Canton, MI) swept their opponents 6-0 at the No. 2 doubles to give Bowie State a 1-0 lead.

In singles, both Lowery and Mason blanked their opponents 8-0 at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions while Gentle claimed an 8-2 win at the No. 1 slot – giving Bowie State its second sweep of the season.
Against the Lady Bears, the Bulldogs only picked up one point, doing so at the No. 1 singles with an 8-5 victory for Gentle. Shaw (5-2, 3-0 CIAA) posted wins at the No. 2, 3, and 5 singles prior to the doubles point that included a 6-0 and 6-1 frames at No. 2 and 3 doubles.
Bowie State will return to action on Mar. 26 at Virginia Union. The division match is scheduled to start at 12 noon.
