Tomorrow evening, September 25, 2024, Baltimore will host a momentous event honoring the legacy of civil rights pioneer Justice Thurgood Marshall. The inaugural Justice Thurgood Marshall Lecture will take place at the newly renovated Thurgood Marshall Amenity Center, formerly P.S. 103—the very school Justice Marshall attended during his early years.

The event will feature The Honorable Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States, as the distinguished speaker. Holder, renowned for his unwavering commitment to civil rights and racial justice, is expected to deliver a compelling address that reflects Justice Marshall’s enduring impact on American law and society. His speech will likely emphasize the ongoing importance of defending the Voting Rights Act of 1965, a cornerstone of civil rights legislation that Justice Marshall ardently supported.

Hosted by Beloved Community Services Corporation, the lecture series aims to honor Justice Marshall’s significant contributions to civil rights and social justice. The organization, established in 2008, has grown to manage over $30 million in assets and supports various community-focused initiatives, including educational programs like Robotics Clubs and Girls Who Code, as well as the STEM City USA project.

The Thurgood Marshall Amenity Center, located at 1315 Division Street in Baltimore, serves as a hub for legal, academic, corporate, and philanthropic communities to gather and engage in meaningful dialogue about justice and equality. This venue choice underscores the deep roots Justice Marshall has in the Baltimore community and his lasting influence on future generations of legal minds.

The event promises to be an evening of inspiration and reflection as leaders from various sectors come together to celebrate Justice Marshall’s legacy. The event not only marks the beginning of an important lecture series but also reinforces the ongoing commitment to advancing civil rights and social justice in honor of one of America’s most influential legal figures.

This event is an invitation only.
