Two Baltimore students received the surprise of a lifetime last week as the Exelon Foundation awarded them full-ride college scholarships during a special event at its Baltimore headquarters.

Akram Serubiri and Stefano Sivori arrived believing they were attending a final in-person interview. Instead, they were met with applause, celebration, and the life-changing news that they had been selected as the newest recipients of the prestigious Chris Crane Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship, presented in partnership with Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE), covers full tuition, room, and board for up to four years. It is awarded to alumni of the Exelon Foundation STEM Academy and Boys to STEM Academy who plan to pursue careers in engineering, business, finance, or information technology.

The surprise celebration featured remarks from Tamla Olivier, along with members of Exelon and BGE’s executive leadership teams. The students were formally recognized with certificates and celebrated during a networking reception with leaders in the energy industry.

The Chris Crane Memorial Scholarship represents the highest honor within Exelon’s STEM programming pipeline, supporting students who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to future careers in high-demand industries. With this year’s awards, Serubiri and Sivori become the 42nd and 43rd scholars in the program’s history.

Both students hail from Central Baltimore, and their selection reflects not only personal achievement but also the growing impact of local STEM initiatives designed to create opportunity and access for young people in the city.

By investing in students like Serubiri and Sivori, Exelon and BGE continue to build a pipeline of diverse, talented leaders prepared to shape the future of the energy sector and beyond.

For the two students, what began as an interview ended as a milestone moment—one that opens the door to higher education and a future filled with possibility.
