Sen. Raphael Warnock has defeated GOP challenger Herschel Walker in Georgia’s Senate runoff, giving Democrats a 51-seat majority next year.

Warnock addressed an energized ballroom full of supporters shortly after 11 p.m., walking out to chants of “six more years.”

“After a hard fought campaign, or should I say campaigns, it is my honor to utter the four most powerful words every spoken in a democracy: The people have spoken,” he said.

Democrats will have a 51-49 Senate majority, gaining a seat from the current 50-50 split with John Fetterman’s victory in Pennsylvania. Some say this will continue the history of a government split as the Republicans were able to narrowly flip control of the house.

Walker conceded the race around 11pm saying “There are no excuses in life and I’m not going to make any excuses now because we put up one heck of a fight,”
