The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) announced on Thursday, October 3, 2024 that a tentative agreement on wages has been reached between the ILA and the United States Maritime Alliance, Ltd. Additionally, the Master Contract will be extended until January 15, 2025 to return to the bargaining table to negotiate all other outstanding issues.

The ILA also stated that “effective immediately, all current job actions will cease, and all work covered by the Master Contract will resume.”

“You can’t govern without people, and the people don’t operate without some form of governance. We need to coexist in a way that will allow both parties to thrive,” an anonymous longshoreman said.

Longshoremen who prepared to return to the picket line on Friday began to share the news about the strike update on Thursday evening amongst each other. Specific details about the extension that halted the strike will be forthcoming.

The Baltimore Times will provide more details as the story develops.
