Dover, Del. (Mar. 29, 2022) — Delaware State head women’s golf coach Rick McCall, Jr. has announced that MikaelaKarnaja, an Oklahoma state champion, has received a Presidential Scholarship to attend the university and will compete for the team beginning in the 2022-23 season.

Karnaja is the defending Oklahoma 5A state champion and helped lead Durant High School to consecutive state team championships. Karnaja shot rounds of 70-73 at Chickasaw Pointe in Kingston to win the latest Oklahoma Class 5A individual title by three shots. Durant won its second consecutive team title by 16 shots over its nearest competitor.
Karnaja plans to major in biological sciences and eventually attend medical school, thanks to the Delaware State University Presidential Scholarship, which will cover the cost of her full tuition, room, and board.
“The science program was really the best one out of all my other options, so that was really what stuck,” Karnaja said at her signing. “Delaware State has a really competitive golf team and I do better on competitive teams than I do going in there and being the best player.”
