Hit Gospel Stage Play Returns to Huber Good Friday April 3

Presented by Battle Stage Plays and Huber Community Life Center in observance of Holy Week, it’s the return of the hit Gospel stage play, Ursula V. Battle’s The Homegoing Service for A Man Named Jesus! 

Performances will take place Good Friday, April 3, 2026 (12 p.m. and 5 p.m.) at the Huber Community Life Center, 5700 Loch Raven Blvd, Baltimore, Maryland 21239. The production is written by award-winning Playwright and Baltimore Times writer Ursula V. Battle and directed by highly-acclaimed director Dr. Gregory Wm. Branch. The powerful modern-day depiction tells the story of some of Jesus’ many miracles as told by those whose lives were forever changed by them.

The Disciples, The Woman at The Well, The Woman with The Issue of Blood, and Mary, Martha and Lazarus of Bethany are among the unforgettable characters sharing their stories during a funeral service being held after the crucifixion at The Glorious Congregation of The Gospel of Jesus Christ Upon This Rock Church of The Redeemed Tabernacle.

Bishop Bryan K. Martin, Pastor of Freedom Church & Ministries, will perform as “Apostle Peter” in this year’s production.

This year’s featured preacher is Bishop Bryan K. Martin, Pastor of Freedom Church & Ministries, who will perform in the production as “Apostle Peter”. Tanya Brown-Iyesi returns as the hilarious usher “Martha of Bethany” along with her counterparts The Hype Ushers!

Performers also include Baltimore mortician Carlton C. Douglass (Joseph of Arimathea), owner of the Carlton C. Douglass Funeral Home along with musical performances by Unified Voices of Johns Hopkins (UV) accompanied by legendary musicians Howard “Buddy” Lakins and David White who will direct the choir.

C.C. Bowen will perform in the production as “The Woman with The Issue of Blood.”

Leonard Stepney, Jr. (Apostle John); soloists C.C. Bowen, (The Women with The Issue of Blood); Shirlethea “LeLe” Holmes (Mary Magdalene); Jennell Ferguson (The First Lady); and Randy “Fruity” Roberts (Rufus Jackson), are also among the featured performers.
