Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey made a very large donation to his alma mater, the University of Alabama recently. Humphrey donated $250,000 to the UA College of Communication & Information Sciences. The donation will help create a lecture series on sports broadcasting.
The former communications major at Alabama also donated $50,000 to the University of Alabama -adapted athletics program to provide equipment and travel funds for wheelchair athletes.
“I am honored to contribute alongside many donors of the past, present, and future. I am thankful for everything the University of Alabama has done for me and my family. Roll Tide..!” Humphrey said via Twitter.
Humphrey had a standout career as a two-year starting cornerback at Alabama. He was named a first-team All American in 2016. The Ravens selected Humphrey with the 16th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
After two seasons as a starter for the Ravens, the team picked up the fifth-year option on Humphrey’s contract. He went on to sign a five-year, $97.5 million contract extension with $66 million guaranteed six months later.
A foot injury that required surgery sidelined Humphrey for the start of last season. He still managed to start 10 games in 2023 but that was the fewest single-season total in his career.
An undisclosed injury limited Humphrey’s involvement during the offseason. The Ravens coaching staff underwent some changes with former defensive coordinator Mike McDonald landing the head coach job for the Seattle Seahawks and secondary coach Dennard Wilson going down South to be the Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator. They are replaced by Zach Orr and Doug Mallory. Having Humphrey available for the start of training camp will be essential.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh gave an update on Humphrey before the end of minicamp.
“Just nagging things. He should be ready for training camp. It shouldn’t be a problem,” Harbaugh said.
