Devin Allen to Curate SCOUT Art Fair at Artscape 2026, Elevating Baltimore’s Creative Voice

Baltimore’s art scene is set to take center stage once again as acclaimed photographer Devin Allen has been named the 2026 curator of SCOUT, the city’s premier affordable art fair held during Artscape. The announcement, made by Create Baltimore, signals a continued investment in making art accessible while amplifying the voices of local and national artists.

SCOUT, founded in 2025 by Baltimore native and renowned artist Derrick Adams, was created as a platform where emerging and established artists can connect directly with collectors through affordable pricing and innovative presentation. Now entering its second year, the fair is quickly becoming a cornerstone of Baltimore’s cultural landscape.

City leadership sees Allen’s appointment as both symbolic and strategic. Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott emphasized the importance of creativity as an economic driver, noting that SCOUT provides real opportunities for artists to build sustainable careers while strengthening the city’s national reputation as a hub for arts and culture.

For Allen, the role is deeply personal. A Baltimore native whose photography has gained international recognition for its powerful documentation of Black life, he described the opportunity as a “full-circle moment.” Having grown up attending Artscape, Allen now steps into a leadership position where he will help shape how Baltimore’s artistic identity is presented to the world.

His curatorial vision is expected to center storytelling, cultural pride, and accessibility—values that align closely with SCOUT’s mission. By focusing on art as both a creative and economic tool, Allen aims to ensure that artists not only showcase their work but also build meaningful connections with collectors and audiences.

Joining him is assistant curator Cierra Britton, a Baltimore-born, New York-based curator and gallery owner known for championing artists who challenge dominant narratives. Together, the duo brings a blend of local authenticity and broader market perspective that could further elevate SCOUT’s impact.

Artscape 2026 will take place Memorial Day weekend, May 23–24, with SCOUT events beginning earlier that week. As the nation’s largest free outdoor arts festival, Artscape continues to serve as a powerful platform for community engagement, economic activity, and cultural celebration in Baltimore.

With Allen at the helm, SCOUT is poised not only to grow but to deepen its mission—ensuring that Baltimore’s creative community remains visible, valued, and accessible to all.
