BALTIMORE — Baltimore-based nonprofit Innovative Initiatives Inc. is opening its doors to the community with an upcoming event designed to highlight its growing impact in STEM education across the city.
The organization will host an Open House on April 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its headquarters, located at 2519 N. Charles Street, inviting families, students, and community members to learn more about its hands-on technology programs.
The event comes as demand for the organization’s programming continues to grow. Its recently announced youth gaming PC building course — a free, eight-week program teaching students how to build their own computers — has already sold out, reflecting strong interest in accessible STEM education opportunities in Baltimore.
A Growing Hub for STEM Education
Innovative Initiatives Inc. provides hands-on STEM programming for youth, adults, and seniors, with a focus on digital literacy, workforce development, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
The organization’s approach emphasizes real-world learning, giving participants the opportunity to engage directly with technology while building practical skills.
“At Innovative Initiatives Inc., we believe that access to technology isn’t a luxury — it’s a necessity for everyone,” said James Mitchell, Founder and Executive Director of Innovative Initiatives Inc. “Our upcoming PC building course gives young people in Baltimore the chance to get hands-on with real hardware, understand how the technology they use every day actually works, and walk away with skills that open doors.”
Mitchell noted that the organization has made intentional efforts to ensure students can continue learning beyond the classroom.
“We have been working to provide each student the actual hardware so when they get home with it they still have that access,” he said. “The open house is an opportunity for the community to come see what we’re doing, ask questions, and be part of something that’s growing into a stronger, more digitally empowered Baltimore.”
He added that the nonprofit is continuing to expand its offerings.
“We are currently designing more courses centered around AI, cybersecurity and innovative technologies that everyone can use,” Mitchell said. “We’d love to see everyone there.”
What to Expect at the Open House
Attendees will have the opportunity to:
- Meet instructors and program leaders
- Learn about upcoming STEM courses
- See demonstrations of hands-on technology training
- Explore opportunities for youth, adults, and seniors
The open house is designed to introduce the community to the organization’s programs while providing a welcoming space for questions and engagement.
