Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott to Be Honored at National Action Network King Day Legislative Breakfast

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott will be among a distinguished group of national leaders recognized this month by the National Action Network for advancing the legacy and unfinished work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Mayor Scott will be honored during the annual King Day Legislative Breakfast hosted by National Action Network and its founder, Rev. Al Sharpton, on Monday, January 19, in Washington, D.C. The event brings together elected officials, advocates, and community leaders from across the country to reflect on Dr. King’s vision while mobilizing action around civil rights, democracy, and equity.

Scott is being recognized for his leadership and advocacy in advancing social justice, public safety reform, and economic opportunity in Baltimore. Since taking office, the mayor has centered his administration on equity-driven policy, youth engagement, and violence prevention, positioning Baltimore as a national model for community-focused governance.

“Mayor Scott represents a new generation of leadership committed to justice, accountability, and opportunity for all,” Sharpton said in announcing the honorees. “His work reflects the values Dr. King stood for and reminds us that the fight for equity must continue at every level of government.”

Alongside Scott, the National Action Network will honor former U.S. Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr., Salamander Collection CEO Sheila Johnson, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation President and CEO Nicole Austin-Hillery, veteran political strategist Donna Brazile, and youth leader Eric Carpenter-Grantham.

The King Day Legislative Breakfast is one of NAN’s premier national convenings, historically featuring appearances by sitting presidents, vice presidents, and senior federal leaders. It serves not only as a commemoration of Dr. King’s legacy, but as a call to action amid renewed threats to civil rights protections and democratic norms.

Immediately following the breakfast, Sharpton will host the organization’s annual King Day Rally at NAN’s House of Justice in Harlem, where New York City and State elected officials will address ongoing challenges facing Black communities nationwide.

For Baltimore, Scott’s recognition underscores the city’s growing national profile and its role in shaping conversations around equity, justice, and inclusive leadership—principles that remain at the heart of Dr. King’s dream more than half a century later.
