Living Classrooms Foundation announces that the Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Park offers free admission in honor of Black History Month on Saturday, February 14, Saturday, February 21, and Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 9am to 4pm. Located at 1417 Thames Street, Baltimore, MD 21231 in Fells Point, the national heritage site celebrates the contributions of African Americans in the development of Baltimore’s maritime industry, including the Chesapeake Marine Railway and Dry Dock Company, the nation’s first African American owned and operated shipyard established in 1868.

Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Park honors the legacy of shipbuilding and Baltimore’s working waterfront as it relates to African American Maritime and Cultural History, Isaac Myers and his partners, and Frederick Douglass while preserving one of the city’s oldest industrial waterfront buildings, the Sugar/Coffee House. The Maritime Park’s second floor museum chronicles the life of Frederick Douglass and Isaac Myers, the Shipyard Gallery features historic items used in ship building and the maritime industry, and the third floor Founders Room spotlights the founders of the original shipyard.
