For Femi The Drifish, art is a vehicle for awakening. A writer, poet, and educator, Femi blends spoken word with cultural consciousness, using language as both mirror and movement. His work sits at the intersection of artistry and activism—rooted in history, sharpened by purpose, and directed toward collective liberation.

The Power of One

For Femi, The Power of One is responsibility. Artists possess influence, and that influence carries weight. He believes creative expression can awaken thought, stir emotion, and inspire action. One voice can ignite conversation. One performance can plant a seed.

Within community, that ignition matters. Change does not begin with mass consensus—it begins with one person deciding to use their gift intentionally.

Spoken Word as Vehicle

Spoken word poetry is Femi’s vehicle for shaping Black futures. Through verse, he examines identity, celebrates resilience, and reframes narratives often distorted or diminished. His work centers dignity and brilliance rather than deficit.

His Cypher contribution opens with affirmation:

“Where we’re from, we shine, we are golden…”

The line is declarative. It positions Black identity as luminous. In doing so, Femi shifts narrative from survival to sovereignty—asserting that Black futures are not imagined; they are embodied.

Inspired by Revolutionary Sound

Femi shared that artists like Bob Marley and Fela Kuti influenced his approach to the cypher. Both figures used music as education and resistance, merging artistry with social consciousness.

That lineage informs his message. He hopes listeners walk away feeling empowered—recognizing both their inherent worth and their ability to impact the world around them.
