Black Wall Street Honoree Leverages Government Contracting Mastery in Bid for Maryland’s 5th District

BOWIE, MD – Most candidates talk about fixing government. Alexis Solis has spent nine years actually doing it.

A technology executive who managed over $1 billion in government contracts as Vice President of a technology firm—and now CEO of her own international consulting firm—is bringing her operational expertise to Maryland’s 5th Congressional District, offering voters something rare in politics: a proven track record of delivering results in the exact systems she’s running to improve.

“Congress needs people who understand how to translate big ideas into functional systems that actually serve people,” Solis said.

Rooted in the 5th for Over 30 Years

Solis isn’t a political newcomer. She’s lived in the district for over three decades, raising her younger brother after their mother lost her battle with mental illness—an experience that now drives her fiercest policy fight.

When the Trump administration announced nearly $2 billion in cuts to federal mental health funding in January, Solis issued an immediate response: “These cuts rip mental health care away from kids, veterans, seniors, and families who are already struggling. Mental health care is health care, and I refuse to accept a future where Washington turns its back on people in pain.”

If elected, she’s committed to restoring SAMHSA funding and expanding access to mental health care across the district.

An Afro-Latina Voice on Immigration and Accountability

Following the fatal shooting of ICU nurse Adam Pretti by ICE agents in Minneapolis, Solis called for removing ICE from routine community policing functions.

“As an Afro-Latina, I’ve heard directly from Latino and immigrant families in our district who are afraid that routine encounters could turn into immigration enforcement actions,” Solis said. “That fear makes communities less safe, not more. Public safety must never come at the cost of constitutional rights—or human life.”

Black Wall Street Recognition

On Thursday, February 5th, Solis will be honored with the Joe Manns Black Wall Street Award at The Doni Glover Show LIVE pilot at the Thurgood Marshall Amenity Center in Baltimore.

“When you’ve managed billion-dollar government contracts, you understand accountability,” said Doni Glover, founder of BMORENews.com and creator of the Joe Manns Black Wall Street Awards. “Alexis knows how taxpayer dollars should work, how agencies should operate, and how to get things done when the stakes are high. That’s the leadership we need in Congress.”

Solis is the author of She Rose: The Story of Strength, Vision, and Voice, exploring leadership, resilience, and purpose-driven impact.

Campaign slogan: “Rooted in The 5th. Fighting for You in Washington!”
