BALTIMORE — On Thursday, February 12th, the American Red Cross of Central Maryland convened its third annual Women in Philanthropy panel at Mercy High School, bringing together influential women leaders from across the region to explore the transformative power of partnership.

Held in the school’s auditorium, the evening program welcomed leaders from philanthropy, higher education, professional sports, media, and business for a conversation centered on how collaboration across sectors strengthens communities and expands opportunity throughout Central Maryland.

A Conversation Rooted in Collaboration

The panel, titled Power of Partnership, featured:

  • Anne Allen, The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation
  • Valencia Hike, Baltimore Orioles
  • Alicia Wilson, Johns Hopkins University

The discussion was moderated by Mindy Basara of WBAL-TV 11 News, who guided a thoughtful exchange on how intentional partnerships expand networks, increase access to resources, and foster long-term resilience.

Panelists shared insights from their respective sectors, highlighting how cross-industry collaboration can break down silos and create sustainable impact. From leveraging corporate platforms to drive community investment to strengthening nonprofit ecosystems through strategic philanthropy, the conversation underscored a common theme: no single organization can do the work alone.

A Legacy of Women’s Leadership

In her remarks, Lenora Henry, executive director of the Central Maryland Red Cross, emphasized that partnership is foundational to the organization’s mission.

“We are thrilled to have a third Women in Philanthropy event in Baltimore,” Henry said. “This year’s panel brings together influential philanthropic and community leaders who leverage their expertise and networks to forge meaningful connections that strengthen Central Maryland. This event is a true celebration of collaboration and the transformative power of partnership.”

The event also honored the legacy of women within the Red Cross, dating back to its founder, Clara Barton. For more than 140 years, women have served as volunteers, donors, staff, and community advocates—playing a central role in advancing the Red Cross mission.

Community Support in Action

The evening was sponsored by VFS Global, with Mercy High School serving as event host and partner.

As attendees gathered following the discussion, the energy in the room reflected a shared understanding: when organizations align resources, relationships, and mission, the impact multiplies.

In a city and region built on resilience, the Women in Philanthropy panel served as both celebration and call to action—reminding Baltimore that meaningful progress is built through collaboration.
