2022 Coca-Cola CIAA Softball Weekly Honors #3

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
For the games March 20, 2022

FOOD LION OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

#3 Malia Simmons, Winston-Salem State
(Fr, UT – Henderson, NC)

Simmons drove in five runs on three hits, all doubles, over three games, batting .375 for the week with a .750 slugging percentage. The Henderson, NC native also scored four runs while helping the Rams finish with a 2-1 record on the week, sweeping Bluefield State at home. 


FOOD LION PITCHER OF THE WEEK:

#2 Alexis Smith, Winston-Salem State
(So, P – Valparaiso, IN) 

Smith went 1-1 for the week on the mound, pitching 12 total innings. The sophomore right-hander pitched five innings, giving up just one run and striking out a batter in WSSU’s 9-1 win over Bluefield State. Offensively, Smith also drove in three runs on three hits while also scoring two to help the Rams to a 2-1 record on the week. 

FOOD LION DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

#2 Victoria Spoon, Saint Augustine’s
(Jr, UT – Holland Patent, NY)

Spoon recorded 10 putouts and one assist with just one error in SAU’s two games against Benedict. The junior from Holland Patent, NY finished with a .916 fielding percentage and also drove in a run from the plate.

FOOD LION ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

#15 Irlynn Richardson, Lincoln (PA)
(Fr, IF – Pittsburgh, PA)

Richardson went 7-for-17 (.411 batting average) from the plate, including three doubles, and scored two runs while driving in another during Lincoln’s six games this past week. The Pittsburgh, PA native also registered 13 putouts and 10 assists on defense.
