Norfolk State Track News: Spartan Men Earn 3 Spots on Outdoor All-State Team

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men’s track and field team earned three spots on the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division All-State Outdoor Men’s Track and Field Team, the organization announced on Thursday.

Sprinter Kai Cole and jumper Joshua Peterson were both voted onto the all-state second team, as was the Spartans’ 4×400 relay team.

Cole qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round in the 100 meters for the first time. He clocked a season and personal-best time of 10.23 seconds at the MEAC Outdoor Championships, where he finished second. Cole was also MEAC runner-up in the 200 meters and ran a season-best time of 20.85.

Peterson won the long jump at the conference outdoor meet with a PR of 25 feet, 1.25 inches to earn his spot at the regional, where he placed 20th.

The Spartans’ 4×400 relay team of Trequan Barnes, Jordan Williams, Dazon Harrison, and Savien Hayes posted a season-best time of 3:09.92 at the Penn Relays, where they qualified for the Championship of America finals.
